Content Writer
You'll write the words that make the case for an independent Texas land with the people who need to hear it.
As a Content Writer, you put the case for Texas independence into words people actually read. You write the articles, posts, and explainers that tell Texians what's happening and why it matters to them. You dig into a topic until you understand it cold, you call the leaders and members who know it firsthand, and you turn all of that into copy that's clear enough for anyone to follow. You'll pick a beat and own it, becoming the person the team turns to on that subject. Write well here and you help thousands of Texians see that their state can govern itself.
What you'd own
- Write articles, posts, and copy, usually 500 to 1,500 words, on what's happening in the movement and across Texas
- Pick a beat and become the go-to writer on it, so you know the subject better than anyone on the team
- Reach out to TNM leaders and members to get their take on a current event and work it into your writing
- Research a topic until you understand it, then turn it into a long-form piece a newcomer can follow
- Interview people worth hearing from and shape the conversation into something readable
- Work with the rest of the Content Team on Slack and Zoom to plan what gets written and when
What we're looking for
- You can write clean, plain copy on a deadline and you take edits without taking offense
- You believe Texas can and should govern itself, and it shows in how you write about it
- You're curious enough to learn a subject from scratch and explain it to someone who's never heard of it
- You're comfortable picking up the phone or hopping on a call to interview someone
- You can take a current event and find the angle that matters to a Texian reader
The commitment
- Volunteer, remote, on your own schedule
- Plan on a few hours a week, enough to turn around a piece or two and stay in the loop with the team
- Some weeks run heavier when a story breaks and we need copy fast
